Jay has been the lead pastor of Crossroads since our beginning. He is married to Wendy (30 years!) and they have three adult kids all in their twenties. Originally from North Dakota with Norwegian roots; he roots for the WSU Cougars (which builds character) and loves to hike, backpack, and play golf (which also builds character). He has a Bachelor of Economics from PLU and a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. Reading American history and theology are favorite pastimes along with studying and teaching the Bible. Crossroads is the second church where he has served as a pastor.
Wendy was raised in Spanaway and graduated from Bethel High School. Cattle ranching was at the center of activities for her family growing up, allowing her to spend many hours on the back of a horse in her early years. She later went on to receive a Bachelor of Biblical Education from Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon. In 1988, Wendy married Pastor Jay Palmer, and then in 1991, together they started Crossroads Church. In addition to co-pastoring with Jay, she especially loves to serve the Lord and his church through prayer, discipleship and overseas mission work. She and Jay have two sons and a daughter that have taught her so much about who God is.
Youth and Worship Pastor
Ericka Wallace grew up in the Pacific Northwest and attended Pacific Lutheran University. Graduating in 2009 with a Music Education degree, Ericka is our youth and worship pastor. In addition, Ericka leads a team weekly on Spanaway Lake High School’s campus called Campus Life to reach students in an after school youth group type environment. Ericka’s hobbies and passions include music, hiking, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and hanging out with students. You can find her at the nearest coffee shop, hiking spot, or at the local climbing gym when she’s not working.
Janet Miller grew up in the Spanaway/Graham area. She attended college at Pacific Lutheran University where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration. The newest member of our staff, she currently serves as the Crossroads Office Administrator. She is excited to be using her business skills to further the work of God’s Kingdom. In 1991, Janet and her husband, Don, were the first couple to be married at Crossroads Church. They are now blessed to be the parents of three adult sons. During her free time, Janet enjoys music, gardening, travel and photography.
Our overseer board, known as the “Nehemiah Team,” is elected by the congregation and prayerfully provides overall vision and direction for Crossroads Church. Current team members are pictured above (L to R): Scott Eskers, Craig Guilbault, Simone Kelly, Pastor Jay Palmer, Pastor Wendy Palmer, Sherry Scott, Barb Vielguth and Don Miller. Team members commit to a 3-year term when elected.
Statement of Beliefs
We believe God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that He is a being of unimaginably wonderful power, goodness, and love.
(Psalm 118:1; Psalm 46:1-3; Psalm 145:-9; Matthew 28:18-19; 2 Corinthians 13:14, 1 John 4:8)
We believe the world exists because God created it, that it belongs to Him and therefore we should cherish and care for it.
(Genesis 1:1, 28; 2:15; Psalm 24:1-2; Isaiah 40:25-26; 1 Corinthians 10:26)
We believe all human beings have dignity because they were created by God in His own image and possess great worth because they are valued by God beyond our ability to measure.
(Genesis 1:27, 31; Psalm 8:3-6; John 3:16; Romans 5:8)
We believe this world has pain and suffering because human beings have fallen and sinned, and are estranged from God, from each other, and from themselves.
(Genesis 3:17); Romans 3:23; Colossians 1:21; Titus 3:3)
We believe God does not intend for sin and suffering to get the last word, but rather, He is at work to redeem and restore what He has made.
(Isaiah 53; Romans 3:21-26; Colossians 1:21-23; Revelation 21:1-5)
We believe God has revealed the truth about Himself and life in the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are our unique and authoritative written guide for faith and life.
(Psalm 19: 7-11; Matthew 4:4; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Romans 15:4)
We believe God has expressed himself uniquely in His Son Jesus, who lived, taught, died, and rose again for our sakes. Jesus is our master, teacher, savior and friend by grace through faith, and now reigns forever with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
(John 14:6-7; Acts 2:32; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 2:13; Colossians 1:15-20; Philippians 2:5-11; 1 Timothy 2:5-6)
We believe the Spirit of God dwells in believers, so we can experience His presence, gifts, fruit, and power unto a life of service and obedience.
(John 14:26; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:9-10; Galatians 3:14; Ephesians 1:13-14)
We believe the Church is the unique community in which each Christian has been placed and through which God wants to bring love, healing, and growth to the human race.
(Matthew 16:16-18; 18:18-20; John 1:12-13; Acts 1:8; Galatians 3:28; 1 Peter 2:9)
We live in hope because one day Jesus will return, love and justice will prevail, and God will judge the world, setting all things right, establishing a new heaven and earth for us to enjoy.
(Matthew 24:30-31; Luke 12-40; Romans 8:37-39; Revelation 1:7; 19:11-16; 21:1-5; 22:7)
Crossroads Church is not part of any specific denomination, but we are deeply committed to partner with neighboring churches and local ministries for prayer and outreach to this region.
