Crossroads Church is a community that has been called into existence by God. We distinguish between bedrock or "core beliefs" which have been cherished and affirmed by the historic Christian church over many centures and "secondary beliefs" which are those areas of theology and practice about which sincere Bible-believing Christians have differed in their interpretation and practice.
The Apostle's Creed, the historic confession of the Christian Church and the Crossroads Statement of Beliefs define our "core beliefs. "Examples of "secondary beliefs" would be the method of baptism, the precise role of the Holy Spirit's work in believers, specifics on eschatology, and questions of free will and election.
This approach of "majoring on the majors" and “minoring” on the minors" results in greater unity, increased humility, and greater possibilities of partnership in ministry.
Crossroads Statement of Beliefs
We believe God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that He is a being of unimaginably wonderful power, goodness, and love.
We believe the world exists because God created it, that it belongs to Him and therefore we should cherish and care for it.
We believe all human beings have dignity because they were created by God in His own image, and possess great worth because they are valued by God beyond our ability to measure.
We believe this world has pain and suffering because human beings have fallen and sinned, and are estranged from God, from each other, and from themselves.
We believe God does not intend for sin and suffering to get the last word, but is at work to redeem and restore what He has made.
We believe God has revealed the truth about Himself and life in the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are our unique and authoritative written guide for faith, and life.
We believe God has expressed himself uniquely in His Son Jesus, who lived, taught, died, and rose again for our sakes. Jesus is our master, teacher, savior and friend by grace through faith, and now reigns forever with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
We believe the Spirit of God is now available to dwell in believers so we can experience His presence, gifts, fruit, and power unto a life of service and obedience.
We believe the Church is the unique community in which each Christian has been placed and through which God wants to bring love, healing, and growth to the human race.
We live in hope because one day Jesus will return, love and justice will prevail, and God will judge the world, setting all things right, establishing a new heaven and earth for us to enjoy.
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.On the third day He rose again.
He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the livingand the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic Church, the communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
*catholic (small c) means "universal"
